Habaraduwa is a small town in the south-western coast of Sri Lanka, situated approximately 14km south of the city of Galle. This part of the coastal belt of the island has many turtle hatcheries that attempt to protect the many species of turtles that visit these beaches. These turtle hatcheries provide a temporary home to disabled or injured turtles who would not be able to survive on their own in the wild. They are carefully nursed and brought back to good health before being released back into the ocean. These hatcheries have become a major tourist attraction in the area.
